Install your eSIM on an iPhone

Scan the QR code from Settings, label the line, and leave it switched off until you travel.

You need iOS 12.1 or later, an internet connection and about two minutes. Do this at home, before you fly — installing is much easier on a connection you trust.

Step by step

  1. Open Settings, then Cellular or Mobile Data.
  2. Tap Add eSIM, then Use QR Code.
  3. Point the camera at the QR code from your order. If you are reading this on the same phone, tap Enter Details Manually and type the SM-DP+ address and activation code instead.
  4. When the phone asks you to label the line, call it something you will recognise — “SAIMING travel” works.
  5. Choose your usual SIM for calls and messages, and leave your usual SIM for mobile data for now.
  6. Turn the new line off until you land. Settings → Cellular → tap the SAIMING line → Turn Off This Line.

When you arrive

  1. Turn the SAIMING line back on.
  2. Set Mobile Data to the SAIMING line.
  3. Turn on Data Roaming for that line. This is required and it does not cost extra — see the roaming article.

Install once, keep forever

An eSIM profile can normally only be downloaded once. Do not delete the line while your plan is still valid — reinstalling is not always possible.
